Moving villagers are quite a pain. They don’t stick to leads and always run in the wrong direction. Minecarts are expensive and so are the rails. So how do we move these creatures?

As you probably already know, villagers cannot have a lead on them lead by a player. BUT what if a villager was sitting on something that could be leaded?

MATERIALS

The materials list is very simple. If you want, you can also grab some blocks.

1. make the villager walk into the boat

There are several strategies to do so. Here are two common ways:

2. fishing rod/lead the BOAT

If you accidentally fishing rod the villager- no sweat. But if you do this many times, the villager might die of damage! A lead does not have damage but is slightly harder to transport. Here’s how to easily hook the boat without hooking the villager:

  1. Go to the boat’s side.
  2. Look down at the middle of the boat’s side. Not the front or the back of the boat, the middle.
  3. Right-click and send out your rod/lead. It should hook the boat.

Now, the options will split into two sides, depending on if you have a lead or fishing rod.

3. fishing rod

Fish the boat. Use the instructions on step 2. fishing rod/lead the BOAT to do so.

Below are some instances where you will need to move the villager and what you should do during those situations.

ACROSS A RIVER

To get your hooked boat and villager(s) across the river, hook the boat, swim across the river, and right click while facing the boat. It should be propelled past the river and over the shore. Power of the fishing rods!

ACROSS FLAT SURFACE

To move it across a flat surface, you just fish the boat, walk some ways (without the fishing rod detaching from the boat) and then right click while facing the boat. The boat should be propelled far, reaching you.

UP A BLOCK

That’s the reason you have a fishing rod! Go to the higher block, move about five blocks away (so you’re on the higher section), and then stack six blocks. Right click the fishing rod while looking at the boat and it should be flung!

3. lead

Lead the boat. Use the instructions on step 2. fishing rod/lead the BOAT to do so.

Below are some instances where you will need to move the villager and what you should do during those situations.

ACROSS A RIVER

Boats can surely float in water, but you can’t get it on top of the shore on the other side. The only way to do this is to build a bridge across the river and drag your boat across it. This is why fishing rods are recommended.

ACROSS FLAT SURFACE

Simple; just lead the boat and then walk across the flat surface. Don’t run, the lead will be detached. Just keep walking slowly and it will be transported and follow you wherever you go.

UP A BLOCK

Just lead the boat, go to the higher block, then start stacking. Stack until the boat moves up a block, then place a block below the boat so that it stays that way. Destroy your pillar. Your boat is now transported up a block.

These are pretty much all the instances in which you will need to move your boat. Did you learn something new? Will you use this breakthrough to move your villagers? Comment below!
