We all know the tragedy of the Titanic back on that fateful night of 1912. The exact date was the early of April 15, and many lives were lost.

But that’s not what we’re here to talk about today. . . we’re here to talk about materials used from one of our most modern ships to the titanic back then– which material do you think is better?

Symphony of the Seas

Main material used for overall ship: Aluminum.

Aluminum is a material used for many things in everyday life. It is a type of metal now often used for cruise ships. Aluminum is a metal that can easily conduct electricity.

R.M.S. Titanic

Main material used for overall ship: Steel.

Steel is overall harder than aluminum, but also heavier at the same time. This can cause for easier ship sinkings when used on ships. Steel is a very recyclable material.

The symphony of the seas is larger, wider, and more advanced than the titanic. It has a system that can maintain balance of the ship if the ship leans over to one side. Water from the compartments flow to the opposite side to even the ship. The R.M.S. Titanic has a slightly different system that helps it from sinking. It has sixteen well known ‘watertight’ compartments.

The titanic was designed for 3 of the compartments to fill up with water. However, the night that it sank, the titanic scraped and opened a deep gash allowing water to fill up in 4 of the compartments. Pumps tried to pump the water out, but the water was filling in too fast and the pumps eventually failed to run.

Could the Titanic Avoid Disaster?

The question has been asked many times. Although we can’t be for sure more than some estimates.

Avoiding Disaster by Ramming into Iceberg

Many events have happened before by ramming straight into an iceberg. Some suggest this may not work, but it has work for other ships. (Not all!) Some events happen when a ship rams straight into an iceberg, and even though the front gets wrecked, the ship still survives the crash in time for going back to the nearest shore.

SOS Signal: Sent from the Titanic but Never Received

On board, people sent the well-known ‘SOS Signal’ many times but was never received or close ships didn’t receive it. It is believed that the ship within or about 20 miles did not receive it, because the captain was sleeping. He was later fired from his job without breaking any rules. He had said that his ship sailing at the time was never the ship detected within 20 miles.

The Carpathia found stranded passengers four hours after the sinking happened. After it rescued people, the Carpathia was named the “R.M.S. Carpathia” like the “R.M.S. Titanic” because it saved passengers. Unfortunately, later it was bombed down by a German U-Boat.

Advanced Technology

Back then there weren’t machines to detect where a ship actually sunk.

Conclusion

Was there something that we could do to prevent this tragedy from happening? Could using the front of the titanic to hit the iceberg work? We do not know, and probably won’t ever know.
