Calculating the area of a triangle is annoying, especially when you think that it’s impossible to do it. But we have a simple and easy to remember formula to help you!
Variables
If we make two variables:
- b = base of the triangle
- h = height of the triangle
- a = area of the triangle
- b = bottom part of the triangle
- h = the height of one side of the triangle
And everyone follows those variables (at least for this post, anyways) then it will be simple.
Calculating
The formula goes 0.5 * b * h = a
Too Complicated!
You think it’s too complicated and you can’t remember? Well, here’s it in word form instead of memorizing the variables.
Base * Height ÷ 2 = area of the triangle
Example
If we have a triangle with a base of 12cm and a height of 7cm then what is the area of the triangle? Try to solve it yourself before you look at the answer.
12 * 7 = 84
84 ÷ 2 = 42
a triangle with a base of 12cm and a height of 7cm is
42 cm2
Conclusion
Once you know the formula, it’s easy– like everything else.
